Benefits of chia seed water

Almost everywhere you look, you’ll see a lot of detoxing and fat burning drinks that promise the world, but the only thing they’ll help you lose is your money and lots of water weight.

Let me explain how this works by going over the benefits of chia seeds, mint and lemons.

Health benefits of chia seeds

Remember that hype about kale being the superfood? Well, chia seeds are also up there on the list of superfoods that you need for a healthier life.

Don’t be fooled by the tiny size, chia seeds have plenty of health benefits some of which include:

Super high in fiber which will help feel full while eating less

Not only is fiber great for a bowel movement, but it also helps to lower cholesterol levels and best of also helps you manage your appetite by helping you feel fuller for longer.

Fibre’s ability to help you manage your appetite means that you will eat less, which as we all know, is key to losing weight.

Fight against chronic disease

Chia seeds are a rich source of bioactive compounds which are known to protect people against chronic disease (bioactive compounds are a type of chemical that is found in plants and some foods).

Chia seeds are high in antioxidants

Antioxidants are essential in a diet, especially a woman’s diet, because (drumroll please) they will help you stay young longer by slowing down the aging process. Give me those chia seeds!

Benefits of mint leaves in your chia seed water

Drinking mint water especially first thing in the morning is highly encouraged because mint is considered a stimulant that can give you that much-needed boost energy.

If you are struggling with motivation to workout, sip on this mint-infused chia seed water before and during your workout.

Mint has also been found to help with weight loss by stimulating digestive enzymes to break down fat and use it as a source of energy.

One other reason to add mint leaves to your chia seed water is that mint helps to relieve indigestion, as well as gas and bloating.

Why you should add lemon to your chia seed water

Lemon water has so many benefits, some of them include helping to control your appetite by balancing blood sugar, help reduce the formation of kidney stones and also helps with digestion by reducing bloating that may be caused by salty food.

How often should you drink chia seed water for weight loss?

You can add chia seed to water or food as much as you want but if you want to err on the side of caution, you should have a maximum of 2 tablespoons of chia seeds a day.

This means that you can drink the chia seed water as much as you wish during the day, as long as you don’t exceed 2 tablespoons per day.

This water will remain fresh in the fridge up to 3-4 days. Just make sure that you stir before drinking because chia seeds stick to the bottom.

If you don’t have chia seeds yet, you can buy these organic chia seeds, available in 1 pound or 2 pound pack.

    Many thanks
    Deidre Clarke

    1. Hi Deidre, yes there are so many indications that chia seeds also helps to stabilize high blood pressure. I will be writing a detailed article on the benefits of chia in the next 2 weeks along with scientific studies.

  2. How can you drink it all day but it says not to exceed 2 tbls per day. Does that mean the amount of chia seeds per day?

  3. Hi…am brenda…whqt if i don’t have the mint leaves…can i squize the lemon water into the soaked chia seeds for a pefect flat belly??…and if so…how long do i take these recipe

  4. I’ve been on vacation and need a good detox drink. I made this recipe to start tomorrow. Can I drink this all day since I just used 1 Tbs of chia seeds?

  5. Do I have to boil the chia seeds before adding it to the water or do I have to put the dry seeds only. Should I squeeze the lime in the water or just cut slices and put ?

    1. Hi Melissa, no, you don’t have to boil the chia or squeeze the lemon juice. Just slice the lemon and follow the steps and you will be good to go!

    1. Yep, you can but would avoid drinking too much alcohol because it causes dehydration and that will just take you a few steps back.

  6. Hi sue. This is an amazing detox recipe but i have a question. Whenever i made lemon detoz, after some hours it tastes bitter. I think the lemon peels makes it bitter. So what should i do. Plzz reply to me i need your help. And thank you so much, keep it up. Lots of love

    1. Hi Sheen, usually lemon water tastes bitter after about 4 hours but when you add either mint or lemon, the bitterness is non-existent. Try this recipe and let me know if it tastes bitter after infusing because I have never had this problem with the recipe.

  7. Hi Sue,
I’ve made Chia Lemon detox prior, didn’t notice a weight loss, not your recipe. I was listening to a Doctor who stated the seeds should be ground first before you receive the fiber. I use the Chia seeds in my Protein drink for the last 3 years with out grinding, letting the seeds soften about an hour. Do you agree that the seeds should be grinded 1st?. I just want to make sure that I’m doing everything correctly.
    Thank you in Advance,
